Ajith Beats Vijay At Tamil Nadu Box Office As Thunivu Takes A Bigger Opening Than Varisu

Thala Ajith starrer Thunivu & Thalapathy Vijay starrer Varisu released on the same day and rocked the box office. Both the films have taken a bumper start at the box office in their home state, however, it is Ajith’s Thunivu that has edged past Vijay’s Varisu on day 1.
Two of the biggest stars of Tamil cinema, Thala Ajith & Thalapathy Vijay had a massive face-off at the box office as their respective films Thunivu & Varisu released amid a lot of fanfare. As the two films released and received similar critical reception, fans were waiting with bated breath to see which superstar takes the bigger start at the box office. Both the films opened to bumper response & recorded huge numbers. And at the end of the day, it is actually Ajith who has beaten Vijay’s box office supremacy and has opened to slightly better collections in Tamil Nadu. © Sri Venkateswara CreationsAccording to Pinkvilla, Thunivu directed by H Vinoth has opened in the range of Rs 18.5 crore to 20.5 crore in Tamil Nadu on day 1.On the other hand, Varisu directed by Vamshi Paidipally collected in the range of Rs 17 crore to 19 crores on its opening day. But the point to be considered here is that while both the films had a similar occupancy rate, the Ajith starrer managed a marginally better release than the Vijay starrer. The all-India gross of Varisu is said to be around Rs 26.5 crore while Thunivu has managed to earn Rs 26 crore.The combined opening day gross of both films is a huge Rs 50 crore plus. If not for the big clash, it was almost certain that these films would’ve created an all-time opening day record at the Tamil Nadu box office.
