In the near future, a new technology that threatens the stability of the world has been created. IS, or Infinite Stratos, are high-tech powered exoskeletons with technology and combat capabilities that make them vastly superior to any other arms on the planet. Seeing the devastating potential of the weapon, nations enacted the "Alaska Treaty" to make sure they are never used for warfare and to ensure that the technology is even distributed to all nations in order to keep the peace. However, because IS can only be operated by women, society takes a drastic change as women become the dominant sex.
